Superbike-coach Cornering School Day 1 (1-26-20)

Coach can leading students around turn 12...

Well, the Superbike-coach classes for 2020 officially got underway this past Sunday with Coach Can Akkaya's Cornering School Day 1 class. The day started out wet, with LOTS of students braving the cold & wet weather conditions and STILL showing up. Once they arrived, they were greeted by the Superbike-coach Team of Coach Can, Marion, and myself, Dean "the photog", as well as hot coffee! As class got started, the weather changed to misty conditions but then stopped and the Stockton Little 99 Go-kart track started drying out, just in time for the first sight-seeing track session.

  

As usual, the class was split into 3 groups based on rider experience and student's bike. Most of this class had new faces, with a few being returning students, and each group took it easy the first time out...some learning the track while others getting a feel for the track conditions for later in the day.

After each track session, students came back to the paddock for the classroom sessions of the course. This is when Coach addresses what happened while students were out on the track and starts explaining the next subject. As mentioned at the beginning of the class, Coach Can LOVES push-ups and the class found out first hand...first a few students then at one point the WHOLE CLASS...ha ha ha! As much as this is used as a "punishment" for not listening, all had fun with it and took it in stride, which shows their RESPECT for Coach.

Each cornering class is broken up into 3 separate days, with Day 1 dealing with finding the idle line, viewing, and emergency braking. As mentioned, the day started out a little wet but MAN how things changed...the track dried out nicely and turned out to be another AWESOME day. At the end of the day, everyone got their certificate, showing they completed Day 1, and talks started for many about planning their Day 2 class. After all, why stop at Day 1...the only way you'll get the FULL affect is to go through the entire class...all the way through Day 3. Those who complete Day 3 are then ready to sign up for Day 4, the TRACK ACADEMY.
